Overview

What the diploma covers.

A structured online programme covering the full surgical spectrum of spine care. Evidence-based lectures, operative technique sessions, and weekly case-based discussion, all delivered live by active clinicians.

Modules

The diploma is structured across 6 modules and approximately 25 weekly hours.

  1. 01
    Fundamentals and Basic Sciences (4 sessions)

    Spinal anatomy and surgical approaches; biomechanics and stability; neurophysiological monitoring; spine imaging and diagnostic reasoning.

  2. 02
    Trauma (5 sessions)

    Acute spinal trauma assessment and classification; upper and subaxial cervical trauma; thoracolumbar and sacral trauma; osteoporotic and ankylosed spine fractures; spinal cord injury management and rehabilitation.

  3. 03
    Oncology and Infection (3 sessions)

    Primary and metastatic spinal tumours; adjuvant and palliative management; spinal infection (pyogenic, TB and post-operative).

  4. 04
    Degenerative Cervical Spine (4 sessions)

    Cervical radiculopathy; cervical myelopathy and rheumatoid instability; ACDF, arthroplasty and complications; decision making in mild cervical myelopathy.

  5. 05
    Degenerative Lumbar Spine (5 sessions)

    CSF management; lumbar disc herniation and cauda equina syndrome; lumbar stenosis and fusion techniques; spondylolisthesis and instability; the endoscopic spectrum.

  6. 06
    Deformity (4 sessions)

    Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis; early onset and congenital scoliosis; neuromuscular and syndromic deformities; adult spinal deformity assessment and surgical planning.

Learning outcomes

  • Master essential surgical anatomy and biomechanics of the spine.
  • Confidently assess and manage the full range of spine pathology.
  • Understand the full surgical spectrum across trauma, degenerative disease, oncology, infection and deformity.
  • Develop nuanced decision-making in cervical and lumbar degenerative disorders.
  • Be equipped to deliver high-quality spine care as a consultant or senior trainee.
  • Prepare for success in national and international fellowship exams.
